FAQs

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine approach to treating a variety of conditions. The practice involves the insertion of thin needles (about the width of a human hair) into the skin, at specific points on the body.  A person may feel a small pinch that should dissipate quickly.

Acupuncture can restore the immune system, decrease pain, improve circulation, calm the nervous system and reduce inflammation in the body.

What can i expect at an appointment?

Initial visits generally last from 60 to 90 minutes. Follow-up visits are an hour. Your acupuncturist will take a detailed health history and provide you a unique treatment plan. Over the course of your treatments, your acupuncturist will spend time getting to know you and your health concerns.

We will do a Diagnostic exam, where we will check your pulse and ask to look at your tongue. These techniques help us determine the best treatment plan.

We then insert the needles, ensuring that you are comfortable and let you rest. A typical session can last from 25-30 minutes. We have relaxing music playing and sometimes people even take an "acu nap."

We may implement an adjunctive technique. Depending on your treatment plan, we may use electro acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, magnets, tuning forks and press tacks.

What do you treat?

Acupuncture can treat and help with pain, anxiety, depression, PTSD, gastrointestinal disorders, insomnia, migraines, fertility support, allergies, autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue, menopausal symptoms, neurological disorders, and much more.

If you don't see your condition listed, please feel free to contact us to schedule a free consultation to see if we can help.

What should I wear and how do I prepare for a treatment?

We suggest that you eat something a few hours before your treatment and wear loose or comfortable clothing for the treatment. We also have sheets and towels if needed to drape.

What should I expect after my acupuncture treatment?

After your acupuncture session, we recommend drinking plenty of water to help your body. Acupuncture releases toxins into your system, by staying hydrated this can help to flush out the toxins. We recommend listening to your body.

Do you have any COVID protocols in place?

Yes! At Great Blue Acupuncture we will follow CDC guidelines by cleaning and sanitizing all treatment rooms and common areas. We wear masks at all times.

Please wear a face mask and sanitize your hands upon entering the office. Hand sanitizer is provided. Please refrain from coming in if you have been exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID-19, or have symptoms of the illness (ie. fever, cough, loss of smell or difficulty breathing).
